The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry of the Interior, Lisandro Catalán, and the Attorney General of the Nation, Eduardo Casal, signed a framework agreement with the objective of establishing a cooperation body between the National Directorate of Migration (DNM) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. of the Nation (MPFN). This agreement seeks to promote greater effectiveness in addressing immigration and criminal issues in the country.
The agreement establishes the implementation of an optimized system for the exchange of information between both organizations, which will allow processes to be streamlined, safer and more efficient. This system will facilitate the MPFN access to key information for its criminal investigations and, in turn, will provide the DNM with the legal elements necessary to resolve the immigration situation of foreigners involved in criminal proceedings.
Among the most notable points of the agreement is the MPFN’s commitment to send the DNM statistical data on foreigners in conflict with criminal law, which will allow for faster and more effective intervention. Likewise, it was agreed to notify the DNM about the convictions handed down against foreigners who have committed crimes in the country, accelerating the corresponding expulsion processes.
In addition, the creation of an inter-institutional working group will be promoted to evaluate and address the problem of foreigners involved in crimes, strengthening the coordination and resolution of these cases.
Within the framework of the meeting, which took place this Tuesday in the Hall of Shields of Casa Rosada, the national director of Migrations, Sebastián Seoane, signed a specific agreement that details a series of specific commitments to reinforce mutual collaboration and optimize work together between the institutions.
The signing of the agreement was attended by Javier Rea, director of Judicialized Foreigners of the DNM; Juan Manuel Olima Espel, head of the Institutional Coordination Secretariat (SCI) of the MPFN; and Juan Dóllera, legal secretary of the SCI.
