A Federal Police deflagrou, in the manhã of this fifth-fair (17/12), to Operação Rent a Car, with the objective of speeding up to practice two crimes of peculato (art. 312 of the Penal Code), money laundering (art. 1º of Law No. 9,613/1998) and criminal organization (art. 2 of Law No. 12,850/2013).
The investigation points to the existence of a criminal scheme characterized by the interaction between public and private sectors, in which public agents and businessmen have established an illicit agreement for the diversion of public resources originating from parliamentary boundaries.
This date is being fulfilled, in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Tocantins, in addition to the Federal District, six search and arrest warrants issued by the Federal Supreme Court.
The operation receives the name “Rent a Car” in reference to the central elements of the investigations and the illicit practices identified at that time. The name directly alludes to the modus operandi of the investigated parties, which a vehicle rental company will use to simulate service provision contracts.
