Brasilia/DF. The Federal Police began investigations to resolve responsibilities related to the remains of the Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira Ponte, located on the Tocantins River, which connects the states of Maranhão and Tocantins. The accident occurred late on the afternoon of last Sunday (12/22), when various vehicles, including tank trucks filled with sulfuric acid and agricultural pesticides, fell into the river.
The preliminary proceedings will be conducted by the Regional Superintendencies of Federal Police in Maranhão (SR/PF/MA) and in Tocantins (SR/PF/TO). Furthermore, a previous investigative procedure was established and federal police were deployed to collect data and evidence regarding the case. The equipment will also evaluate the multidisciplinary nature of the necessary expertise and identify demands for technical equipment to deepen the investigations.
To reinforce the expert work, a team composed of five experts from the National Institute of Criminalistics (INC/DITEC), two civil engineers, two local crime specialists and one environmental specialist, will be relocated to this third fair (24 /12) for the Federal Police Delegation in Imperatriz.
The Federal Police highlights the importance of addressing the causes of accidents and environmental damage, ensuring the responsibility of those involved and contributing to the safety and protection of the population and the environment.
